Trump-putin meeting in Alaska. No breakthrough on Ukraine Ceasefire

Trump-Putin Summit: No Ukraine Ceasefire

Anchorage, Alaska: — U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met Friday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.

The talks lasted nearly four hours. Both leaders called the discussions “constructive” but offered no formal ceasefire for the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.Trump greeted Putin on the red carpet and personally escorted him into his limousine. The two spoke privately in the car without translators.

Later, the formal talks included foreign ministers and senior officials. Journalists were allowed only brief photos and video coverage.

Ukraine dominated the agenda. Trump pressed for an immediate ceasefire but said more meetings would be needed.

At a joint press conference, Putin thanked Trump for hosting the summit in Alaska. He described the talks as constructive and said he had developed “very good relations” with Trump.

On Ukraine, Putin called the war a “tragedy” and said he sees Ukrainians as “brothers.” He stressed that Ukraine’s security must be guaranteed but argued that peace requires addressing the conflict’s root causes. He also demanded that Russia’s security concerns be considered and called for restoring global stability.

Analysts noted the symbolism of the leaders meeting in Alaska, once part of the Russian Empire. Trump said he remained optimistic about progress but warned that serious issues require time. The summit eased tensions but left the Ukraine conflict unresolved.
