Pakistanis fighting in Ukraine war in support of Russia, alleges Zelensky

Zelensky Says Pakistani Fighters Aiding Russia in War

Kyiv: August 5, 2025: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Pakistani nationals are fighting for Russia in northeastern Ukraine.

He visited troops near Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region on Monday. He said Ukrainian forces spotted fighters from Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and several African countries.

“Our warriors report the participation of mercenaries from these countries. We will respond,” Zelensky wrote on X.

Islamabad has denied any role in the war. It also rejected earlier allegations of supplying weapons to Ukraine.

In a statement today, Foreign Office in Islamabad said Kyiv had provided “no credible evidence” to support the allegation, nor has it formally notified Islamabad on the matter.

“The Government of Pakistan will seek clarification from Ukrainian authorities,” the spokesperson said, adding that Pakistan “remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations.”

In 2023, the BBC reported a $364 million arms deal between Pakistan and two U.S. firms. The weapons allegedly went to Ukraine. Pakistan and the Russian ambassador denied this.

Zelensky has accused Russia of recruiting Chinese fighters. Beijing denies it. He also claims North Korea sent troops to Russia’s Kursk region.
