CHITRAL: Community leaders in Ayun vowed to fully support the police in eradicating drugs from the area and to establish anti-narcotics committees in all neighbourhoods under the supervision of local clerics.
The resolve was expressed at a meeting held at Ayun police station, chaired by SDPO Muhammad Isa.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Isa and SHO Attaur Rehman said drug use have become a serious threat to the younger generation, giving rise to multiple social evils. They said the police were making continuous efforts to curb drug-related activities, and almost every known drug peddler in Ayun had been arrested at least once or twice. However, they added that awarding punishment was the domain of the courts.
They said the number of drug dealers in Ayun was small, and with organised community participation, the issue could be effectively controlled.
Former nazims Rehmat Naeem Shah (Maulana Room) and Rehmat Elahi, VC-2 chairman Muhammad Rahman, general councillor Amin Shah, Maulana Muhammad Ashraf, Inayatullah Aseer, Abdul Sadiq, Mohammad Niyaz, Masoodur Rehman and others praised the recent community-led actions in Ayun Sehan and Darkhanandeh, terming them encouraging steps.
The speakers said those involved in pushing drugs and destroying the youth were “enemies of society” and must be strictly monitored and socially boycotted. They suggested that if necessary, portraits of known drug peddlers should be displayed in public places to warn people against interacting with them.
The meeting also endorsed the formation of anti-drug committees in every neighbourhood under the leadership of mosque imams, with inter-committee coordination at the union-level to strengthen efforts.
Participants urged the judiciary to award strict punishments and heavy fines to those arrested in drug cases so that no one would dare engage in the illegal trade in the future.

That seems workable to start keeping eye on elements involved in dealing as agents of drug mafias at local level. these agents are present in almost each village across Chitral and are not only known to drug users but also to other people.
