LONDON, Oct 16, 2025: British newspaper The Guardian has reported that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was the only world leader who managed to handle US President Donald Trump’s unpredictable behavior during a high-profile international summit in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
The report says Trump arrived more than two hours late to the Gaza Peace Summit and immediately unsettled several world leaders with his remarks and conduct. He commented on the appearance of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, joked about UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed by saying “he’s got a lot of cash,” and pointed toward British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, saying he was “standing behind as usual.”
Starmer assumed Trump had invited him to speak and stepped forward, but Trump grabbed the microphone again and resumed talking, leaving the British leader visibly embarrassed.
Trump also addressed the Canadian Prime Minister as “President” and, when corrected, replied that he should be thankful he had not been called the “Governor of Canada.”
The newspaper notes that Shehbaz Sharif alone handled the situation confidently. During his speech, he praised Trump generously, which delighted the American president. When Trump tried to return to the stage, Shehbaz stopped him politely and continued his address without hesitation. His confident handling of the moment eased the tense atmosphere and stood out from the responses of other leaders.
