Five Countries Owe Millions Of Dollars To Pakistan

Islamabad, August 12, 2025 — An audit report reveals that five countries owe Pakistan over $30 million.

Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iraq, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau have not repaid export credits given in the 1980s and 1990s. The total debt exceeds Rs. 8.6 billion.

Iraq owes the most at $23.13 million. Sudan’s outstanding amount is $4.66 million. Bangladesh owes $2.14 million for sugar and cement projects. Guinea-Bissau’s debt is around $3.65 million.

The Auditor General raised concerns about these unpaid dues back in 2006-07. Pakistan sent reminder letters and demand notices, but the countries did not pay.

The Auditor General now urges the government to take stronger action to recover the money.
