Chitrali man held for smuggling Rs70m currency notes

KOHAT: A Chitrali man was arrested in Kohat along with his accomplice from Orakzai on the charge of smuggling Rs70.49 million currency notes to Kohat from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

A police official in Kohat that a team led by SHO Mohammad Riaz Shaheed police station Mohammad Asif Hayat stopped a vehicle near the cadet college police post on the Rawalpindi highway, and during search found several crates full of currency notes.

He said the suspects were identified as Syed Amin from Orakzai district and Shamsul Qamar hailing from Chitral.

The two men admitted that they were smuggling the money to Kohat for hundi-hawala purposes. They were later handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency for further investigation.

It may be mentioned here that four days ago, another Chitrali man was arrested after recovery of antiquities from his vehicle in Peshawar.
