Security tightened for Chinese workers in Chitral

CHITRAL: In the wake of the suicide attack in Besham that left five Chinese engineers dead, the police in Lower Chitral have decided to further enhance security of Chinese workers in the district.

The Chinese nationals were going to their place of work at Dasu in Kohistan from Islamabad when a suicide attacker rammed an explosive-laden car into their vehicle on March 26.

The government and security agencies say enemies of Pakistan are trying to dent the friendly Pakistan-China relations and disrupt different ongoing projects under CPEC across the country.

A number of Chinese nationals are also working in the Lavi hydropower project in Lower Chitral. At a meeting, acting District Police Officer (DPO) Abdus Sattar directed the subdivisional police officer (SDPO) and station house officer (SHO) Drosh to review the security measures for the Chinese workers keeping in view the prevailing situation.

Officials from the Lavi power projects present at the meeting were directed to ensure implementation of the standard operating procedure (SOP) devised by police and other authorities for the security of the Chinese workers.  The police were also told to enhance security of other key installations in the district.
