Imran, wife indicted in Rs190m pound corruption case

Five of over 55 prosecution witnesses summoned for March 6 to record statements.

RAWALPINDI: An accountability court here on Tuesday indicted former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the 190 million pound Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.

Accountability court judge Nasir Javed held the hearing of the case inside the Adiala jail where Imran is being kept in another case while his under-custody wife Bushra Bibi was brought from her Banigala house which has been declared a sub-jail.

In the presence of the lawyers of Imran Khan and his wife and the NAB public prosecutor, the court read out the charges against the couple. However, the former prime minister and his wife denied the charges.

The court then adjourned further hearing of the case till March 6, and summoned five of the 58 witnesses to record their statements.

In the corruption case, NAB has alleged that the PTI government struck a deal with property tycoon Riaz that caused a loss of $239m to the national exchequer.

Imran and Bushra Bibi allegedly received billions of rupees and a large swath of land from Bahria Town after legalising Rs50 billion that was returned by the UK during the previous PTI government.
