Security finalized for polling stations across Chitral

CHITRAL: Security arrangements have been finalized for polling stations in Chitral lower and upper as all is set to hold general elections on February 8 (tomorrow).

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, 172 polling stations have been established in Lower Chitral and 140 in Upper Chitral.

The voters in Chitral will elect one member for the National Assembly and two members for the Khyber Pakthunkhwa Assembly.

In a statement, the Lower Chitral police on Wednesday said 1,633 officers and Jawans will perform security duty during the elections.

Out of the total polling stations in Lower Chitral, 18 have been categorized as highly sensitive, 65 sensitive and the remaining 88 as normal.

Acting District Police Officer Lower Chitral Muhammad Sattar Khan briefed the police officials at the ground of Govt Centennial Model High School Chitral before their departure for their places of deployment.

The acting DPO directed them to ensure security and safety of voters, election staff and materials so that the polling is held in a peaceful manner.

Meanwhile, 140 polling stations have been set up in the district of Upper Chitral where police and election staff have reached. Most of the polling stations have been set up in government schools.

Out of these, 11 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive and 25 sensitive and the renaming are normal.
