ISLAMABAD: While the Election Commission of Pakistan convened a meeting on Thursday to discuss law and order situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, unknown gunmen shot dead a candidate affiliated with the PTI in Bajaur tribal district of KP on Wednesday.
Officials said as the Feb 8 general elections approached, police and other officials would brief the meeting in the ECP about the overall security situation in the two provinces in the wake of repeated terror attacks on security forces in the provinces.
Police in Bajaur identified the victim candidate for the National Assembly as Rehan Zeb Khan. He was killed while running his election drive for PK-22 and NA-8 Bajaur seats. After the murder, election on the two seats was postponed.
A day earlier, a blast ripped through a rally of the PTI in Sibi area of Balochsitan in which four people were killed and scores of others injured.
The PTI in a post on social media networking platform of X condemned the killing of the candidate for National Assembly. It demanded a proper investigation and arrest of the culprits involved in the murder.
