ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday summoned JUI candidate for NA-1 Chitral Talha Mahmood to Islamabad.
According to an official of the election commission, Mahmood has been warned of action in case he failed to show up in the ECP snd answer to questions.
The summon was issued after a video showing Mahmood distributing cash to people in Lower Chitral went viral on social media.
In the video, Mahmood can also be heard saying to the voters that he will personally check the results.
According to reports, the JUI candidate has also arranged free food packages and a few days ago handed cash to a large number of women in Chitral.
On January 16, Mahmood while addressing a corner meeting in Upper Chitral said he was a social worker and wanted to serve the people of Chitral and change destiny of its people.
He said his opponents were trying to remove him from the race. “If serving the poor is a crime, let’s go ahead and stop me till Feb 8, but what you will do after the elections.”
He said that his opponents had also managed to get stopped in the way scores of trucks carrying food items to Chitral.
Mahmood belongs to Khanpur in the district of Haripur and is a former senator of the JUI-F. He also remained federal minister for religious affairs in the PDM government led by prime minister Shehbaz Sharif.
