BOONI: In order to maintain the exemplary peace of Chitral, a meeting of political and religious leaders and elected local government representatives was convened by Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam Upper Chitral in Booni today (Sept 9).
The meeting was held in the wake of the terrorists’ infiltration into Chitral from Afghanistan on Sept 6, 2023 to devise a strategy to maintain peace and harmony. The speakers said people of Chitral irrespective of their party and other affiliations were on same page as regard to peace.
The participants paid tribute to jawans of security forces who laid down their lives defending the border of Chitral and said the people of Chitral would always stand by the armed forces in their fight against terrorism.
They stressed the importance of maintaining the exemplary peace by remaining united and collaborating to thwart misunderstanding and avoid any untoward incidents. They said local people would remain on same page regarding peace of Chitral.
The participants said there was a need to keep an eye on Afghan nationals working in Chitral and in case of any suspect or stranger in their company the police should be alerted. Legal action should be initiated against those found involved in propaganda against the state and the security forces.
The public should be educated on how to meet any emergency situation through the platforms of schools, mosques and Jamatkhanas.
They demanded that all personnel of Chitral Scouts posted out of Chitral should be called back and deployed in Chitral on security duty. The participants later took out a rally and chanted slogans in favor of security forces.
