GB assembly speaker removed in no-trust move

GILGIT: Deputy Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Nazir Ahmed was on Wednesday elected unopposed as the speaker of the house after the speaker belonging to the PTI was removed through a no-trust move by his own party.

No member, including the opposition,  submitted nomination papers for the slot of the speaker.

Finance Minister Javed Manwa, who presided the Assembly proceeding, administered oath of office to the newly elected Speaker Nazir Ahmed, Radio Pakistan reported.

Later, the newly elected speaker, while thanking the members of the assembly, reiterated his commitment that he will run the affairs of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly according to the law.

Earlier, the speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi, was removed from office through a no-confidence motion.

During secret voting, Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi got only one vote out of 22 while 21 votes were in favor of the motion of no-confidence.
