Police say bid to abduct minor girl was misunderstanding

CHITRAL: Local people foiled a bid by a suspect to abduct a minor girl in the Orghoch village of Lower Chitral today (Saturday). 

According to social media reports, the minor girl was playing outside her house when the stranger tried to lure her away. In the meantime, however, the mother of the girl spotted the suspect and started screaming. 

Local residents then caught the man who was later identified as a resident of Damel in Arandu. 

Police started an investigation to ascertain if the suspect was linked yo any gang. However, the police said the incident was misunderstanding.

In a statement, the police said the suspect was a junk collector and was talking to the girl outside her house when her mother taunted him away.

The police said after receiving reports through the social media, SI Bulbul Hassan reached the house and brought the suspect to the police station in Chitral town.

The police said the suspect, Akhon Zarin of Damel, turned out to be a junk collector and was in the village and talking to the girl when her mother suspected him to be an abductor. Her suspicion was was a result of earlier social media reports that a group was in Chitral and trying to abduct children.

The police said that verification of the suspect showed that he had never been involved in any crime in the past.
