Veteran Khowar poet Naji Khan Naji passes away

PESHAWAR: Renowned Khowar poet, writer and intellectual Naji Khan Naji passed away on Monday, leaving behind a big chunk of literary work in the shape of two books and which he wrote on various topics.

He was bedridden for the last few months and died at his home village of Shotkhar in Torkhow, Upper Chitral, at the age of 90. 

Born in Torkhow, Naji had worked with great devotion to enlighten the hidden history of Chitral. He was also the author of an Urdu-Khowar dictionary.

Famous Khowar poet and former president of Anjuman Taraqi-e-Khowar Peshawar chapter Meherban Elahi while talking to ChitralToday said Naji was a high calibre literary figure and had remained very active in the Khowar union.

Mr Elahi recalled the days when he used to visit Naji at his Torkhow residence and how they used to have sittings with legendary poet at his place.

He said one could not separate the writings of Naji Khan from his personality. “He was a soul committed to his ideology.”
