New survey for BISP from 15th

ISLAMABAD: A survey to include more deserving people under Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will start on January 15. 

The tehsil offices of the social safety net have been tasked to conduct the fresh survey, State Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Faisal Karim Kundi said while speaking at a seminar organised by the Population Council here on Thursday.

He said at present 8.7 million deserving families are registered for the BISP assistance and benefiting under Benazir Kafaalat programme. A financial assistance amounting to Rs7,000 is being provided quarterly to each family, he said.

The fresh survey is being launched in order to register more deserving people who due to any reasons were not included during the previous surveys and who fulfil the criteria fixed for eligibility for registration in the BISP financial aid, the minister said.

Mr Kundi said that the government had decided to include transgender persons in the Kafaalat programme under BISP.

He invited all partner institutions, civil society, NGOs and provincial departments to work together with BISP for implementing similar social protection programmes.
