CHITRAL: Rain and snowfall across Chitral since Saturday evening has restricted mobility, especially on Chitral-Dir and Chitral-Mastuj road.
There are reports of heavy snowfall in upper areas due to which the severity of the cold weather has increased. The office of the deputy commissioner of Lower Chitral said five inch of snow had fallen on the Lowari tunnel road but the road was open for traffic.
Meanwhile, Lower Chitral police said DPO Nasir Mehmood had issued special instructions to SHOs of all police stations in view of the recent rains and snowfall to help travellers in their areas.
“Jawans of Ashiret police station are alert 24 hours. Additional deployment will be made from Chitral police line if more personnel are needed,” the police said in a statement.
It added that there was a risk of landslides at various places in Chitral due to rains and snowfall, so people were requested to avoid unnecessary travel.
The Met Office in Islamabad has already forecast rain and snowy in Chitral and other areas of Malakand Division till Jan 9.
Based on the prediction, the NDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has directed the departments concerned to remain on alert as there was possibility of landsliding and road blockades in mountainous areas.
