One held after timber smuggling bid foiled

CHITRAL: One person was arrested while his accomplice fled after their bid to smuggle timber out of Chitral was foiled by the district administration and the forest department, the DC office said on Sunday.

It said there had been reports of timber smuggling out of Chitral from Kesu and Khairabad areas. Efforts to catch the smugglers could not bear fruit as the smugglers through their informers escaped arrest by the district administration.

However, Assistant Commissioner Drosh Tausif Ullah succeeded to trace and catch the smugglers who were taking the timber out of Chitral in a datsun.

One suspect was caught along with the timber while his accomplice who was piloting the vehicle in a bike escaped. Efforts are ongoing to catch members of the network.
