CHIRAL: For the first time, a two-day sport festival was arranged for prisoners of the district jail Chitral to provide them an opportunity to participate in healthy activities.

The festival was arranged by district sport officer Aamir Zaman in collaboration with the directorate of sports Peshawar and the district administration of Lower Chitral.

There are at present a total of 90 prisoners, including four women, in the prison catering to both the districts of Lower and Upper Chitral, jail officials told ChitralToday.

Teams of prisoners played different games in the sport festival such as tug of war, volleyball, football, badminton, carrom and musical chair against teams comprising the jail staff.

The tug of war was won by the team of the jail administration who defeated the prisoners’ team. The prisoners’ team, however, defeated the jail staff team in volleyball,  sack race and carrom games and received the trophies.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Irfan inaugurated the festival while Deputy Commissioner Anwarul Haq was chief guest at the concluding day and distributed trophies and awards among the participants.
