BANG: About a week after over 10 families were rendered homeless by the flooding Yarkhun river in Pavur village, the PTI chapter of Upper Chitral arranged funds to divert the flow of the river, local people told ChitralToday on Tuesday.
Political and social activist Zahir Uddin said due to flooding in a nullah in Dewser village located on the other side of the river, the river flow was blocked after which it changed its course and flooded the Qazian De area of Pavur on August 21.
He said over 10 families were rendered homeless after their houses were completely damaged while scores of other houses were partially damaged and submerged in floodwater.
The affected people were provided tents by Aga Khan Agency for habitat (AKAH) and other relief goods, he added.
on the requests of the locals, PTI Upper Chitral President Shahzada Sikendarul Mulk visited the affected village and after contacting the government authorities got Rs500,000 sanctioned to diver the flow of the flooding river, he added.
Because of the timely action, an excavator has been hired which is working on the diversion of the river water under the supervision of the local representatives.
Mr Zahir thanked Shahzada Sikendar as well AKAH for quickly responding to the issue and saving the area form further flooding.
