AKAH asked to remove debris, complete protection wall

AYUN: The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) has been asked by people of Ayun to remove debris from Ayun Gol side and complete the protection wall without further delay.

Talking to ChitralToday, notables of Ayun, including Saeeduddin, Saeed Ahmed, Tanzilur Rehman, Musharraf Khan, Ghulam Hussain and Fazlur Rehman said AKAH had started construction of 325 feet long wall to protect houses along the Ayun Gol against flooding last year.

After months, the agency completed only 125 feet of the protection wall and left the remaining work incomplete. The debris from the digging for the protection wall are still lying along the waterway, narrowing its width.

They said as the volume of water in the stream was increasing, the debris could cause blockade of the water leading to flooding into the agricultural land and houses of the locals.

The notables called upon the authorities of AKAH and the contractor concerned to immediately remove the debris and complete the remaining work before the summer months.

They warned that if no action was taken, the local people would hold a protest demonstration against it.

It may be noted that AKAH has carried out embankment works in many areas across Chitral to protect villages against floods but left some of them incomplete.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
