CHITRAL: As many as 10 members of the Kalash community, including women, were elected on different seats in the March 31 local government elections in Lower Chitral, officials told ChitralToday here on Saturday.
One of the successful candidates is Shaira Kalash, an educated woman, who took part in the election for the first time and won the seat reserved for women by bagging over 1,000 votes.
Talking to ChitralToday, Shaira thanked the local people and vowed to work for the development of the area and promoting education among the youth.
She said her area lacked clean drinking water while women remained deprived of their rights for which she would be working.
She said that she had just started her political career with a mission to work for the members of the Kalash community and the Muslim residents of the backward area.
She also said that besides funds from the government, she would be approaching the private sector to help in launching development schemes in the area.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
