Religious leaders ask Taliban to open girls schools

PESHAWAR: Religious leaders from different schools of thought called upon the Afghan government to open girls secondary schools and facilitate women education.
The call was made at conference organized in Peshawar on Wednesday by Muttahida Mahaz, a network of religious leaders from all schools of thought.
The speakers included Zahoor Shakir, adviser to chief minister KP, Molana Yousuf Shah Haqani, chairman Mutahida Ulema Board, Ziaullah Shah Bukhari, Molana Tayab and others.
They emphasized the role of motivated and committed religious community leaders as a key to promote girls’ education and transformative change and need to work collectively. The religious leaders highlighting the importance of girls education in the reflection from the holy Quran and Sunnah called upon the Taliban leadership to reconsider their decision of keeping the girls secondary schools closed and to reopen all girls secondary schools so that children without any discrimination can continue their education.
The speakers demanded the Taliban government to allocate all required resources and facilitate to support and promote girls access and ensured that girls can access education without any fear.
