Hired assassin sentenced to death in couple murder case

CHITRAL: A hired assassin belonging to Dir was on Monday sentenced to death on two counts and fined Rs1.5 million for killing a youth from Garam Chashma and his pregnant wife three years back.

Announcing the judgement in the couple murder case, additional district and sessions judge Muhammad Qasim convicted Attaur Rehman of Patrak village of Dir and acquitted his three accomplices, also belonging of Dir.

According to the case details available with ChitralToday, Waqar Ahmed of Izz village had married a woman from Dir-Kohistan against the will of her parents.

Waqar later brought his wife to his native village but later the parents of the woman managed to kill her along with her husband through the hired assassin in October 2019. The woman was pregnant when she was murdered.

Chitral police later arrested the hired assassin but the father and others who were behind the killing are yet to be brought to justice.

The mother of the youth from Izz village in April 2021 said the Dir-Kohistan police have failed to arrest the actual killers of her son and pregnant daughter-in-law, including Tajuddin, Shah Khalid and the wife of the hired assassin even after about two years.

She said the SHO of Patrak in Dir-Kohistan was not taking any interest in arresting the killers who are roaming freely in their village.

She appealed to the chief justice and the IGP to order the SHO to arrest the killers and provide justice to her.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
