CM's aide Wazirzada joins election campaign of PTI candidates

BREP (UPPER CHITRAL): Violating the election commission’s code of conduct, chief minister’s special assistant on minorities’ affairs Wazirzada MPA has started participating in the election campaign of the ruling PTI candidates for the March 31 local government elections in different parts of Upper Chitral.

PTI’ candidate for the slot of Mastuj tehsil council chairman and candidates for councillors along with party leader Shahzada Sikendarul Mulk, Rehmat Ghazi and others are accompanying him.
Under the code of conduct of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), “After the issuance of election schedule, the president, prime minister, governor, speaker, deputy speaker of any assembly, chairman and deputy chairman of Senate, federal and provincial ministers, advisers to the prime minister or chief minister or any other holder of public office shall not visit the area of any local council to announce any development scheme or to canvass or campaign for any candidate.”
However, the chief minister’s assistant has started the campaign of the PTI candidates violating the code and is trying to influence the voters by promising funds if the party nominees won the local government polls.
On Wednesday morning, he held a public gathering at Parwak, Chuinj and later reached Brep and addressed a gathering of people before proceeding to upper areas of Yarkhun.
The people of Brep presented a number of demands, including setting up of a powerhouse, dredging of streams and rehabilitation of flood-affected people, but Wazirzada told them that he cannot announce funds before the elections as there is a ban by the ECP. However, he said, if the party candidates won the election he would visit the area again to look into the demands.
Talking to ChitralToday, PML-N candidate for the Mastuj tehsil council chairman Pervez Lal termed the visit of the chief minister’s assistant pre-poll rigging. He said under the rule Wazirzada cannot visit any constituency after the schedule of the election is announced.
He said he would contact candidates of other opposition parties to jointly take up the violation of the code of conduct by Wazirzda in all forums, including the ECP.
