PESHAWAR: Contractual doctors working on contractual basis in different health units for over two years on Wednesday took out a rally demanding regularization of their services.
The rally started from outside the KP assembly building and ended at the Peshawar Press Club.
The participants were carrying banners and chanting slogans in support of their demand.
Talking to ChitrlToday, president of the Ad Hoc Doctors Association Dr Javed said they have been demanding regularization of their services but the government was yet to take a decision.
“We were recruited in April 2020 and after two years have not been made permanent despite repeated assurances from the government,” he added. He said more than a dozen of doctors have now become overage while waiting for regularization. If the government further delayed the regularization, the future of all the doctors numbering about 800 in the province would be at stake.
Dr Javed said since February 28, the ad hoc doctors in the province have been on a complete boycott of all kinds of duties, including polio, coronary, measles and OPD services.”
Association’s general secretary Dr Naveed said in other countries health workers who fought against the coronavirus were being rewarded but “we are being denied of our basic rights.”
