Hamidullah Khan of Shogram passed away in the early hours of Monday, February 21st, 2022, in Booni, Upper Chitral. He was 75 years old. He had checked himself into a hospital in Booni two days earlier and was diagnosed with pneumonia.
He was born in Shogram on April 4th, 1947. He was the second son of the late Muhammad Nadir Aman Khan, ‘Lal of Shogram’. He was the younger brother to the late Muhammad Changiz Khan Tariqi, the eminent teacher and poet, and was the elder brother to Ambassador Muhammad Aslam Khan. Their youngest brother, Javid Ahmad Khan, had tragically passed away in a road accident in January 2014.
Hamidullah Khan grew up a well behaved and innocent child. He was a gifted student who garnered academic acclaim. After completing his elementary and middle school education in Zait and Reshun, he went to the then State High School (now Govt. Centennial Model High School) in Chitral to pursue his secondary level education. He passed his matriculation exam with distinction, securing the highest position in the then State of Chitral. He was offered an appointment as a teacher which he accepted.
He followed that up by enrolling at the prestigious Islamia College in Peshawar and later completed his B. Com. in the newly opened Quaid-i-Azam College of Commerce with distinction. Subsequently, he also obtained a master’s degree in economics from the University of the Punjab, Lahore.
After graduation, he joined the Monopoly Control Authority in Islamabad and thereafter worked for a short while in the newly established District Registrations Office in Chitral, before joining the Department of Tourist Services under the Ministry of Tourism in Islamabad. He retired from service as Deputy Controller in the Department of Tourist Services and spent the rest of his life at Boombagh, Upper Chitral.
Hamidullah Khan was a dedicated civil servant who carried out his duties with extraordinary care and attention in Chitral, Swat, Lahore,Peshawar, and Islamabad. He was well known for his hard work, exemplary honesty, sense of fairness and noble character.
He is remembered as a highly disciplined and handsome young man who was respectful to elders and kind to youngsters. His family celebrates him as a kind father, a caring husband and, above all, a devout Muslim, following the Quran and Sunnah at every juncture and in every walk of life. It is for these rare qualities that his younger brother, Ambassador Muhammad Aslam Khan, who spent his entire childhood and a sizable part of adult life in his company, considers him no less than a saint. He leaves behind his three daughters and son.
While mourning the loss of his passing away, his family and friends are also thanking Allah Subhanahuwa Taala for the many years and memories together with him, and celebrating his beautiful, meaningful, successful and blessed life.
We also sincerely thank all our relatives, friends and well wishers who were kind to converge at Boombagh, despite the harsh winter weather conditions, to express their love and respect for him and share our grief.
May Allah Subhanahuwa Taala elevate him to Janna Al Firdous and grant us patience!

I mourn the sad demise of Hamidullah Khan as one of his close associates and school fellow when he was in the government middle school Kosht. I pray for his salvation.
I also fully endorse what has been narrated about his exemplary character as the humblest soul I ever met. God bless his pure soul in Jannat Firdous.
