Weather allowance for govt employees

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has sanctioned a new weather allowance for its employees which will come into effect from the current month.

According to a notification issued by the finance department on Feb 25, the employees in hard/extreme areas such as Chitral, lower and upper, Dir, Swat and Shangla would get Rs80 per day for 115 days a year. This allowance will not be paid to the employees, except Class IV, during the vacation periods.

In moderate weather areas, the allowance will be Rs50 per day for 85/65 days while in warm areas it will be Rs15 for 46 days a year.

The allowance will be permissible in warm and moderate areas for employees from BPS 1 to 16 and in extreme weather areas for employees of all grades.

Moreover, the admissibility of the hot and cold weather charges will stand disconnected forthwith, the notification added.

The employees had been protesting for many months against reduction and changes to the allowance made last year.
