Protest sit-in announced against power crisis
MROI (CHITRAL): Social, political activists and members of Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam at a meeting here on Sunday gave the government departments concerned 72 hours to end power outages otherwise a protest sit-in would be held at Koghuzi.
The meeting was held at the residence of Ghaffar Khan Lal in Mroi with senior lawyer Abdul Wali Khan in the chair. Notables form both Upper and Lower Chitral were present.
The participants severely criticized the government for its utter failure to ensure supply of electricity to both Lower and Upper Chitral even after operationalization of the 108 megawatt Golen Gol powerhouse two years ago despite repeated public protests.
The participants also came down hard on the officials of PESCO and PEDO and warned them that if they did not ensure uniterrupted power supply in three days people from Koh and Upper Chitral would assemble at Golen Gol and stage a sit-in till resolution of the issue.
They said if any untoward situation arose out of the public protest, the power utility companies, PESCO and PEDO, would be held responsible for it.
They also called upon the deputy commissioners of Lower and Upper Chitral and the commandant of Chitral Scouts to take notice of the power crisis and help in resolving it.
