Protesters ask govt to withdraw ‘Ghunda’ tax on power bills
CHITRAL: A protest rally was held against what the participants said Ghunda tax levied by the federal government as the fuel price adjustment (FPA) on electricity bills.
The protest organized by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) was held at Ataligh Bridge in which a large number of people took part.
Speakers on the occasion also termed the tax pick-pocketing on poor people by the PTI government and called for its immediate withdrawal. On the actual consumption of electricity worth about Rs1,000, the government has started recovering over Rs2,000 tax called FPA across the country.
They said the PTI government was using all tactics to rob the people by increasing taxes and introducing new taxes. The mini-budget would be a new bomb on the poor masses, they added.
The protesters also said despite production of electricity, Chitral has been deprived of a power royalty while the consumers were being sent inflated bills.–Bashir Hussain Azad
