Construction of Istaru bridge nearing completion
CHITRAL: The construction of Istaru bridge in Upper Chitral has entered the final stage over which people of Torkhow have expressed a sigh of relief.
Construction of Istaru bridge faced delays after the dilapidated bridge near the village collapsed when an empty dumper was crossing it, killing the driver, in March 2000.
The people of Torkhow faced lots of hardship as they remained almost cut-off from other parts of the district, especially in the winter, and had to use an old road via far-off villages and hilly areas as an alternative.
However, construction of the RCC bridge started early this year and now the project has entered the final phase.
It may be noted that the people of Torkhow also volunteered to work with the contractor at the site to complete the project without delay.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni [Picture: Zakir Zakhmee]
