ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered Capital Development Authority and the district administration to open access roads to Malot in Islamabad where a large number of people from Gilgit-Baltsitan and Chitral are settled.

Hearing a petition filed by the natives of GB, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah observed that the CDA and the district administration always facilitated influential people at the cost of marginalised segments of society.

The petitioners belonged to the Ismaili community and have been living in the area since 1995. Scores of other families belonging to the same community migrated from Gilgit-Baltistan after the natural calamity of Attabad Lake and are started in this area.

The petitioners’ counsel, Chaudhry Mohammad Ashraf Gujjar, argued before the court that his clients and other residents of the area were using an access road of the CDA to reach the main roads. After starting development on Park View Housing Society, its management blocked the access road, he added.

He argued that the housing society not only encroached upon the access road but also blocked another road where the residents of Malot could access the main road through Bahria Enclave.
