Shares in Markhor trophy hunting fee distributed

CHITRAL: The shares of 12 communities in the Markhor trophy hunting permit fee in Chitral was handed over to their representatives at a function here on Sunday, says a press release.

The representatives of the 12 communities belonged to the Toshi Shasha markhor conservancy.

The programme was started in Chitral in 1983 by the wildlife department. The local communities were included in the programme in 1998 after which it has seen a marked success and become a model for other areas and regions as well.

Dtr Fazal Baqi Kakakhel, the conservator of wildlife for Malakand division, and PTI local leaders distributed cheques among the beneficieries at the function.

    The news is welcome but short of vital information such as the names of awardees and the amount of cheques they received, this is necessary for transparency and accountability.
