BOONI: A delegation of notables met federal minister for water and power Omer Ayub Khan here and urged him to resolve the power issue of Upper Chitral by permanently connecting the area to the Golen Gol powerhouse.
The delegation included representatives of Tehreek Huqooq-e- Awam, who presented a resolution to the minister during his visit to Booni on the concluding day of a football tournament.
The resolution said that currently Upper Chitral was being supplied electricity on a temporary basis as there was no proper transmission system from the Golen powerhouse.
The minister was requested to direct the department concerned to set up a separate grid station for Upper Chitral to ensure uniterupted power supply from the 108 megawatt powerhouse to Upper Chitral to resolve the issue once and for all.
The minister assured the delegation that the issue would be resolved and he would direct the concerned quarters to work on the proposal on a priority basis.
A leader of the Tehreek told ChitralToday that the power minister stayed in the area till the conclusion of the paragliding festival and also attended the final of the football tournament.
He said Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Muhammad Ali also briefed the minister about the power issue and hopefully there would be a progress on the resolution of the crisis.
