Doctors warn of strike

Two doctors sent to Chitral from Kohat as punishment

CHITRAL: About 24 doctors at a meeting here warned of a strike at the District Headquarters Hospital Lower Chitral against a raid conducted at the house of a colleague by officials of the district administration.

The meeting arranged by the Chitral Doctors Forum was chaired by Dr Gulzar Alam.

The doctors said the officials led by Assistant Commissioner Saqlain Mushtaq raided the official house in the absence of Dr Rehmat Aman and misbehaved with his family, including women.

They said the house had been constructed on funds provided by the health department and its allocation was authorized by the medical superintendent of the DHQ hospital.

The district administration wanted to get the house vacated without any authority and allot it to someone else.

The doctors said a number of houses meant for them were occupied by unauthorized persons but the district administration was unable to get them vacated and instead  harassing the doctors.

Moreover, 14 posts of specialists and 38 posts of medical officers are vacant in the hospital and the administration has not been able to get the vacancies filled.

The doctors warned that if the administration failed to tender an apology to Dr Rehmat Aman and ensure no such incident occured in future, the doctors will observe a strike in the emergency and outpatient department at the DHQ hospital.–Bashir Hussain Azad
