Mock disaster risk exercise held in Reshun

CHITRAL: A mock exercise for removing injured from disaster-hit places and giving them first aid was conducted as a measure of disaster risk management for disaster-prone Reshun village in Upper Chitral.

The exercise was conducted under UNDP-funded Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF)-II project on the premises of Government High School Reshun.

The event attracted a large number of the members of civil society and local volunteers including students, who were imparted training jointly by the personnel of Provincial Disaster Management Authority and Rescue 1122.

The field officer of GLOF-II project, Shahzada Iqtidarul Mulk, emergency officer of Rescue 1122 Zafaruddin and Aftab and Ismail of PDMA highlighted the importance of community-based disaster risk management.

They said that intensity and magnitude of the loss in an area hit by catastrophe could be mitigated by making the local people resilient.–Dawn
