First-ever national football league in Chitral in August
Chitral Football League (CFL) will start in late August this year. The league, which is first of its kind national level football event, will have 16 teams. It will be a franchise-based league on the pattern of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
In a press statement issued by Ideal Club Drosh, Kamal Abdul Jamil, president of the club, said CFL season-1 is being organized under the patronage of Shahzada Hasham Ul Mulk and DFA Chitral is also supporting the event.
He said it would be a remarkable event in the sports history of Chitral as Chitral will host league football for the first time in which players from across the country will participate while franchises have been booked by teams from Buner, Swabi, Peshawar and Mardan.
“We have finalized the preparation and in late August we will conduct this magnificent event in Chitral. Initially it was conceived to be held in April 2021 but due to the pandemic the schedule was changed. Again it was fixed from August 2 to 14 but due to Peshawar Football League, we have decided to change the schedule again, said Mr Jamil.
CFL would be handled professionally and prove to be a best leisure and entertainment for football fans.
All the matches of the league would go live via social media channels. He said that the league will open an opportunity for young players.
“We have very clear objectives on it, we want to introduce professional football in Chitral to explore opportunities for players, we are optimistic in promoting tourism through sports,” said Mr Jamil.
“We have the innovative plan of linking sports activities with global development goals as we are committed to utilize this mega forum for public awareness and educating the communities about SDGs.”
He said details of the league and its schedule will soon be shared in a press conference by Shahzada Hasham Ul Mulk.
He said the role of Chitral Scouts, district administration and Chitral police will be of great importance in the success of this mega event.
