MINGORA: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday issued a stay order restraining further construction work on the five-star Beejan Hotel on a disputed land in Chitral.
A single bench, comprising Justice Wiqar Ahmed, heard petitioners in civil revision case titled Shahzada Colonel Sharifuddin and others vs the settlement officer of Chitral and others and issued the order prohibiting further construction of the hotel.
The High Court observed in its order that it would look into the case in more detail as the notion of the district court allowing the respondents to construct the hotel based on an undertaking seemed marred by legal infirmity.
The court issued notice to the respondents for June 28, and ordered status quo till then.
Work on the hotel owned by a Chitral born US businessperson started in October 2020.
Earlier. claiming that the land on which it was being constructed, some locals had obtained a stay order from a local hotel which was vacated on April 30, 2021.
