From the time immemorial, human being on the earth encountered many disasters such as floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruption, and pandemics. The disasters have been catastrophic for men. The history of pandemic diseases is as old as the human history. Some pandemic diseases are here: The first plague, the black death, tuberculosis (TB), plague of Justinian and now the Covid-19 pandemic.
Covid-19 stands for corona virus disease 2019. Some of the pandemic diseases were so horrible that they completely ruined many cities.
Covid-19 started from the city of Wuhan in China as the first case was reported on December 31, 2019. Within months, it affected all the major cities of the world, including those in Europe, America, Asia and Africa.
In Pakistan, the first patient was tested positive on Feb 26, 2020. Since then we are in trouble.
Covid-19 pandemic has long lasting effects on our society as it has changed the meaning of life. Every sphere of our life has been badly suffered in the hand of the disease. Its effects on economic activities, education and the people’s psychology is manifold. Education has been effected by Covid-19 greatly.
Just with the first corona case in our country in February last year, our government imposed countrywide lockdown as a preventive measures. Schools were closed down with all other activities of life. Prolonged vacations started on March 3, 2020, and continue even today. Effect of the Covid pandemic on education is multi-fold.
Our education is so affected that we are studying at home but the environment of school cannot be attained at home. I never saw such vacation in all my life. We were given homework by school. I am studying in Aga Khan High School Booni. We are thankful to our teachers that they gave us homework and assessed them. But students in other schools are suffering as they have almost forgotten what they are supposed to study. Although we got homework, we never got the environment of school at home.
The college-going students were having online classes but because of the internet issue they also don’t got their classes some time. Our exams were cancelled and many of the students undergo psychological stress. This year, I was supposed to be in grade 7th but because of exams cancellation I’m still in grade 6th. It’s not the government’s fault but it is all our fault because we don’t follow the SOPs which the government had devised. If we want our education doesn’t suffer we should follow the SOPs. That’s why I request you to follow them.
I suggest the following measures to be taken by my fellow students during the pandemic.
- Follow the SOPs set by the government.
- Study whatever has been assigned to you by your school.
- This is the period when we have plenty of time. We can utilize this time to create something, explore places unknown to us, study extra materials such as magazines, newspapers, story books etc.
Believe me we can overcome the losses we have faced during this time. If we waste this time it cannot be compensated. My advice to my friends is that time is money and don’t waste it.
In the end, I would say that Covid-19 is not so easy going as you think. If we do not follow the SOPs our education will suffer for all. My purpose for writing this article was to guide you people to follow the SOPs and continue reading.
