KP to spend Rs2.5bn on honorarium to prayer leaders

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to grant honorarium to prayer leaders of mosques across the province from the start of the upcoming financial year.

Around 22,000 prayer leaders will be granted monthly honorarium of Rs.10,000 each. The provincial government will spend an amount of Rs23 million per month and Rs2.5 billion per annum on the scheme.

It was decided at a meeting of Auqaf Department held here on Monday with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair.

Briefing the meeting about the progress made so far on the grant of stipends, it was stated that data on all the prayer leaders in settled districts had been collected.

The chief minister directed the high-ups of the department to expedite work on data collection of  prayer leaders in the newly-merged districts as well and to complete all the arrangements to provide monthly stipends across the province from July 1,  2021.
