Women unable to get BISP stipend in Yarkhun
YARKHUN: Beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) are facing immense hardship while waiting for the distribution of their stipends in Zzupu village of Yarkhun for over a week.
The monthly stipend has not reached them for many months as earlier there was no distribution point and the women used to go to Meragram No 2. Now the distribution point has been opened at Zzupu but there is not internet connectivity for handing them the cash. The money is paid through the bank after verifying their thumb impressions. The new system was introduced to ensure the money reached the actual beneficiaries.
Now the bank has opened a distribution point at Zzupu village for distribution of the stipend among the women of Yarkhun union council but there is no internet.
Deputy Director Social Welfare Department Javed Ahmed told ChitralToday that in order to facilitate the women of the far-off area which remains blocked due to snowfall in the winter, he got the distribution point opened but there was still the issue of internet connectivity.
He said an official of the bank was waiting in Zzupu village to get connected with the bank concerned but the internet service of the only mobile phone service provider was poor in the area.
Local people told ChitralToday that the generator of the mobile phone company’s tower has been out of order for many days. Actually, the belt of the generator in the tower has broken and the system is not working properly.
They locals demanded that the bank concerned take immediate steps to rectify the fault so that the distribution of the BISP stipends could be started among the poor women without any further delay.
