Staff negligence blamed for minor’s death

AYUN: A minor boy died due to non-provision of emergency treatment at the Rural Health Centre (RHC) Ayun.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) local leaders, including retired Subedar Fayyaz Ahmed, Irfan Ali and Imtiaz Ali, said the boy was brought to the RHC Ayun with a breathing problem.

But the staff on duty asked the parents to take the boy to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Chitral, saying the RHC lacked emergency treatment facilities, including oxygen.

When the child was being taken to the DHQ hospital, his condition worsened and the parents rushed him to the Basic Health Unit (BHU) at Broz where the doctor tried to save his life by supplying him oxygen. However, the minor boy passed away.

The PTI leader said had oxygen been provided to the child at the RHC Ayun his life could have been saved. They said the negligent attitude of the doctor and other staff at the RHC, which caters to a population of over 35,000, was unacceptable.

Such unprofessional attitude by the staff at the RHC has become a routine but every time the staffers blame the government for lack of facilities, they added.

The PTI leaders called upon the authorities concerned to immediately replace all the staff, including the doctor, at the RHC with new ones.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
