Golen water supply restored after 15 months
CHITRAL: The supply of water to Chitral town and nearby areas from Golen valley has been restored after more than 15 months.
The supply line was washed away by flash floods in Golen valley on July 8, 2019.
After prolonged delay leading to public protest, the government released Rs40 million for the rehabilitation of the supply line and work on the project was launched in June 2020.
But the work was once again disrupted when on July 14, 2020, the Golen valley again saw flash floods due to glacial melting.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral Abdul Wali Khan said the local administration was under pressure from the public due to non-completion of the project.
The water supply project will benefit over 150,000 people of the town and nearby areas he added.–GH Farooqui
