CHITRAL: Speakers at a function held in connection with World Snow Leopard Day here emphasised conservation of the wild cat for its pivotal role in ecological balance and said support of women should be enlisted to achieve the goal.

Held in the University of Chitral in collaboration with Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF), the function was addressed by Abdul Wali Khan, Mohammad Idrees, Sarmad Hussain, Shafiqullah Khan, Shah Fahad Ali and others who termed snow leopard an iconic animal found in the Hindukush mountains since long.

Elaborating the theme of the day for the year – women’s participation in snow leopard conservation – they pointed towards the need for gender mainstreaming through various schemes of livelihood improvement, including utilisation of handicrafts.
