World’s longest, highest cable car to run between Kumrat and Madak Lasht valleys

Madaklasht residents oppose cable car project

PESHAWAR: The The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Thursday decided to launch a cable car service between Kumrat valley in the district of Upper Dir and Madak Lasht in lower Chitral to promote tourism.

The proposed 14-km-long cable car will be the longest and highest in the world, and on completion it will expectedly attract 8.00 million foreign and local tourists to the province, and thus will generate maximum employment opportunities and boost economic activities in the province.

This was decided in a meeting of tourism department held with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair. The meeting gave go ahead to the department to carry out detailed feasibility study and engineering design of the project.

The meeting was told that the project would be completed with an estimated cost of the Rs32 billion, adding that the cable car will have parking facilities on both the stations whereas it will have an intermediate station as well with restaurants and other allied facilities.

The feasibility study of the proposed project would be completed in five to six months. “The proposed cable car will be built on international standards which, on completion, would attract foreign and local tourists at a large number,” the meeting was informed.

The project will be very much environment friendly and feasible on the grounds that no land acquisition process is involved therein.

Directing the concerned authorities to immediately start work on the feasibility and engineering design of the project, the chief minister said the proposed project was of high importance to boost tourism activities, and on completion, it would generate maximum employment opportunity for the local people by boosting tourism activities.
