The locals on the occasion appreciated the efforts of Sartaj Ahmed Khan in making it possible to launch the much-needed service in the area by using his personal contact with the PTCL general manager, a participant of the event arranged on the occasion told ChitralToday.

Mr Sartaj on the occasion also spoke to the PTCL general manager on phone and invited him to the area which he accepted.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sartaj appreciated the efforts made by Israr Saboor for the launch of the service. He said Mr Saboor repeatedly approached him for resolution of the issue, and the result was the launch of the service in the area.

The PTCL had laid the fiber optic lines in Garam Chashma at the end of last year but delayed the formal launch of the DSL service.

An official of the PTCL told ChitralToday that soon the DSL service would be extended to other areas of Garam Chashma.

With the COVID-19 pandemic and closure of educational institutions, colleges and universities launched online classes but students of far-off areas such as Garam Chashma and Yarkhun, Torkhow and Laspur faced hardship as there is no internet facility.

The launch of the service in Garam Chashma will greatly help the students in coping with the issue. The PTCL has also laid lines in Mastuj, and some other parts of Upper Chitral but is yet to start the DSL service there.
