CHITRAL: Govt employees reject budget 2020-21, call for pay raise. In this regard, the All-Government Employees Coordination Council Chitral chapter, on the call of the provincial council, held a protest demonstration against the federal budget 2010-21 and declared it anti-people and anti-employees demanding its revision and pay increase.
A large number of government employees gathered outside the local press club, who were holding placards and chanting slogans against the government.
Addressing the protesters, Amirul Mulk, Muzaffaruddin, Qari Muhammad Yousuf, Ziauddin, Jehangir, Jamaluddin, Fayaz Ahmed, Muhammad Qasim and others said the government while taking the excuse of the COVID-19 pandemic did not increase the salaries of the employees even though inflation was increasing and the lawmakers had recently jacked up their own salaries by 200 percent citing the same inflation.
The govt employees rejected the budget and said if the government did not revise it the employees would launch a countrywide protest against this injustice.
The protesters said the Sindh government in its budget has announced a 10pc increase in the salaries of its employees as well as the pension. They demanded that the KP government should also announce a decent pay and pension increase in its budget.
They were of the view that the inflation had already broken the back of the poor and middle class and without an increase in salaries and pensions the working and retired employees would be in a dire straits to meet ends meet.–S. Nazir Hussain
