Tehreek leaders focus lingering issues of Torkhow
BOONI: Leaders of Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam (THA) Upper Chitral at an oath-taking ceremony held in Werkhop on Sunday highlighted the lingering issues of Torkhow and expressed their concerns over lack of government interest in resolving them.
The event was held to administer oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of the THA’s tehsil Torkhow chapter where central leaders, including MukhtarAhmed Lal, Muhammad Pervez Lal, Rehmat Salam, Zakir Zakhmi, Sultan Nigah, Qurban Ali and Abdullah Jan, were also present.
The major issues of the area included non-construction of the Istaru bridge after its collapse a few months ago and the absence of an alternative road to the area, slow pace of work on the construction of Torkhow road, absence of a separate grid station for Torkhow and people’s concerns about the recently-held Patwari survey.
Speakers on the occasion demanded resolution of all these issues by the government and said the Tehreek would soon formulate a strategy in case no progress was made on these projects.
The newly-elected office-bearers who took oath included Hussain Zareen of Rayeen, patron-in-chief; Jalal Uddin of Werkhop, president; Muhammad Afzal, Istaru, senior vice president; Sher Afzal Khan, Shagram, vice president; Haroon Rasheed Werkhop, vice president; Zafar Ahmed, Istaru, vice president; Abdul Wahab, Werkhop, general secretary; Abdul Wadud, Werkhop, deputy general secretary; Fazle Qadir, Werkhop, secretary information, Haroon Rasheed, Werkhop Gologhmuli, deputy secretary information, Fazle Subhan, Werkhop, joint secretary, Obaidullah, Werkhop, secretary finance, and Ghulam Aulia, Istaru, coordinator.
It may be noted that Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam has been in the forefront in raising public issues of Upper Chitral for the last many years. It has mobilized and arranged one of the area’s largest pubic gathering over the power crisis in the area.
