Youth injured in unexplained firing incident dies
CHITRAL: A youth from Koghuzi died at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Chitral of injures he had sustained in an unexplained incident in Khot Upper Chitral three days ago.
Sources told ChitralToday correspondent that Yahya Khan, in his early 20s, had gone to Khot to work as a labourer where he sustained injuries from gunshots in his room. The injured was shifted to the DHQ hospital Chitral where he died on Monday.
When contacted, Torkhow police told ChitralToday correspondent on phone that the incident occurred on the night of May 8. The police said some labourers from Koghuzi were staying in a room of a college in Khot.
On May 8 night, their relative Shah Jalaluddin from Koghuzi came to meet them. They were sitting in the room when a pistol being carried by Jalaluddin accidentally went off and a bullet hit Yahya in the chest, said the police.
The police said Jalaluddin was not working with any contractor but is a government employee and had gone to the college to meet his relative labourers. The police said a case under section 337 and 15AA of the PPC had been registered.
In reply to a question, the police said the contractor of the under-construction grain godown in Khot had brought some non-local labourers to the area but no non-Chitrali was involved in the incident in which the youth from Koghuzi has died.
They also said Chitrali and non-Chitrali labourers were even not living together but had separate accommodations in the area.
Some residents of Khot have, through social media, raised objections over the district administration’s alleged soft corner fro the non-local people in their area.
They said first the administration let outsiders reach the area without keeping them on quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic and then failed to keep an eye on their movement. They were of the view that outsiders were posing a threat to the peace of the area.
They also wondered how a person carrying pistol could be moving in the area without being checked.
