BOONI: Upper Chitral’s first COVID-19 patient belonging to Laspur valley was on Tuesday sent home after he recovered from the disease.

Doctors of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Booni and officials of the district administration sent the patient off from the Government Girls Degree College at Khandan.

After testing positive for the coronavirus, the patient from Laspur valley was kept at the isolation unit set up at the college.

Two other patients, one belonging to Charun and the other to Terich, also tested negative twice within the span of 24 hours.

Upper Chitral’s first COVID-19 case was confirmed on April 21, two days after a positive case emerged in Lower Chitral, a month or so after the virus was reported in Pakistan.

A total of eight patients had tested positive for the virus in the upper district and with the discharge of three now there are five other patients in Upper Chitral.

Four of the total 27 patients tested positive in Lower Chitral have also recovered and sent home.

There are 23 active COVID-19 cases in Lower Chitral at the moment. This brings down the number of total active patients in whole Chitral to 28 with no death from the virus so far.

Over 1,000 suspected patients are on quarantine in both the districts of Chitral.

There are about 85 quarantine centres across Chitral, the highest any area of the KP province.

This is because a large numbe of Chitrali people are settled outside Chitral and have returned home after the lockdown across the country.
